ABradstow Albion 2 - 3 Generation Sports
Mark O'reilly scoring for Gen

Generations last game of the season against Prem Div Cup finalists was a mixture of highs and lows.
No show from manager or keepers and Gens 13 still opting to pull positions from the hat.
Hoggie volunteering for the keepers spot.
Full backs, Jason, Mark and Jimmy, Midfield of Brett, Argie and Andy, Arron and Woody up front.
Bradstow were clearly up for the game whilst Gen were out for a laugh.
With a strong wind blowing down the pitch against Gen it was going to be a battle of fitness as well as football. Bradstow took the game to Gen and used the wind for the long ball. Mostly wandering out of position Gen had to rely on pace and dogged defending to get themselves out of trouble, and defend they did. Jimmy putting in an outstanding performance, often last man gave little away. Gen worked a few moments of threat in Bradstow's box. Chris sneaked forward a couple of times, Andy`s header from a corner but nothing to trouble Bradstow's keeper.
Looking like the half would finish on even terms. Bradstow came forward, with only minutes to go they broke on the left and fired home a shot that the diving Hoggie just missed.
Disappointed, Gen took the half time whistle a goal down.
Another re-jig of players, Jimmy and Argie off, Karl and Chaz on and Gen playing with the wind in their backs pushed on.
Mark now upfront with Dan tried to latch onto the long ball with little effect, however a move from midfield gave Mark a moment to turn on the edge of the box, a space opened for the shot and 1-1.
The game then swung Bradstow's way as Gen defended from their own mid half. Slowly Bradstow took control, seeing Gen struggle to get forward and after several near misses and great keeping Bradstow went ahead from close range.
Gen hung on but with no shape and little football played it was a matter of hanging on. Bradstow found the net again but flagged offside by Kevin.
With 10 to go and getting bored the committee (John and Andy) urged the team to revert to proper positions. Moments after doing so Chris who had played at centre back went on a solo run, zig zagged his way to within a metre of Bradstow's goal and 2-2.
It was mostly Gen now as they pushed for the winner. With a handful of minutes to go Gen pressed in Bradstow's area, the ball flying, finally cleared in Andy's direction, rising to meet the ball Andy's thunderous volley was unstoppable from 4 metres. Minutes later the whistle went to signal the end of Gens season and a nice win.
Well played.
Have to give MOTM to 2 players Hoggie in goal with some outstanding saves and Jamie for a great full back display.

Albys United FC 3 - 3 Generation Sports (Semi Final Div Cup) 3-2 Pens
Jimmy McClean on fire to open the scoring for Gen

Semi final of the Divisional cup and all to play for. Today's opponents Albys United the premier champions.
Having beaten Gen twice this season by the narrowest of margins on each occasion and Gen very confident going into this game saw what turned out to be game of the season.

Phil Fennel and the commitee elected to start with Jimmy McClean to partner Chris Lewis up front. A partnership that has not really developed this season, but with bundles of pace, which Albys have had trouble with dealing with over the last couple of encounters. The gamble that paid immediate dividends, as true to form Albys had trouble containing the dynamic duo.
Gen made a great start, as on 7 minutes, a goal kick from Dudley is flicked on by Jordan Wells in the centre of midfield. His flick finding Chris Lewis, who's ball over the top of Alby's back line finds McClean, who out paces and out muscles the Albys backs to hit an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net for 0-1 in Gens favour. Then on ten minutes Gen almost doubling the lead when a ball is played down the right byline by McClean for Lewis, who cuts it back to Nick Argyrides. His first time cross finds Jordan Wells, who's first time shot is pushed around the post by the Alby's keeper. Alby's pushed for the equaliser, but a resolute defence of Quain, Woodward, Johnson and Argyrides stood firm.
Then on 27 minutes Gen double their lead. A ball worked from left back Aaron Quain, who drills the ball down the line to Chris Lewis. He takes on three Albys players, cutting the ball back to Hindley. Hindley returns the pass into the gap for Lewis to latch on to, beating the keeper at his near post for a 0-2 lead.
Five minutes later and it could have been three as Johnny Hindley finds himself in space on the edge of the Alby's area. His turn of pace sees him reach the goal line, crossing to McClean, who was in two minds as whether to diving head or wait for the ball to drop. He elected for the ball to drop, and under pressure gets a great shot off, but finds the keeper.
Within a minute Gen's pressure sees them win a corner. Swung in by Quain sees Johnson beat Twyman in the air, but his header just clearing the bar.

Half time 0-2

The half time team talk really focused around how well Gen had been playing, but be aware that Albys never die attitude would apply and that they would up their game, in the only way they know. High pressure, first to the ball, bullying players.
The first 20 minutes and next goal would be crucial.

The second half begun and straight away Albys upped their game, as true to form they came out fighting.
Gen held tight, until ten minutes in when they won a throw in deep into Gens half. The long throw looking for Twyman, went over Tymans head bouncing up for Zack Thomas to hit home from 5 yards.
Within two minutes and it was all square. Albys now upbeat and Gen unable to settle won a corner. This time Tyman rose first to head into the top corner of the net for 2-2.
Gen make their first substitution to try and contain Alby's. The young Wells replaced by Hoggart. This move worked well as Gen settled back into the game. Gilson, who was carrying a knock was replaced by Shane Brown, who took up an unfamilar right wing position, with Dan Hughes moving into a central role. The remaining half hour was cancelled out, as both teams began to tire and extra time looming.

Final Score 2-2

Extra Time
Some tired legs out there, Aaron Quain struggling with Hamstrings, but wanting to continue. Gen's bench full of injuries, with the exception of O'Reilly.
Fennel sensing this pushed Brown into a more attacking role.
Again Gen starting the brighter as they regained the lead 2 minutes into extra time. Neil Hoggart the provider this time, finding Lewis, who's first time sweeping shot finds the corner of the Alby's net.
10 minutes in and we are all square again. This time Thomas for Albys was forced into the corner, but somehow he managed to swing the ball into the air. The swirling wind taking the ball over Dudley and into the net.
Gen's final substituition Quain off for O'Reilly. Hindley in at right back, in a 4-3-3 formation.
17 minutes into extra time saw Gen break with pace. Lewis, McClean and Brown against 3 Albys defenders. Lewis latching onto the ball just inside his own half saw Alby centre back Bailey bring Lewis down on the half way line, on what could have been a great chance for Gen. He went into the book and Gen awarded a free kick, which resulted to nothing.
Then came a bit of genuis from Lewis. He picked the ball up from Hoggart, just outside Alby's area, looked up and struck a fierce curling shot goal bound, only to be denied by the crossbar.
20 minutes and Bailey is sent off. This time for Kicking out at Lewis off the ball. This was picked up by the league official linesman. A shame ending to a great game, but that's the temperament of some of the Albys line up.
Final whistle blew and it was all down to pens.

1.Jimmy McClean - Well struck shot down the middle - Hits the bar (Albys Score)
2.Chris Lewis - Not well struck, but good enough 1-1 (Albys Score)
3.Mark O'Reilly - Again not a great pen, but they all count 2-2 (Albys Score)
4.Dan Hughes - keeper saves (Albys miss Dudley saves down to his left) 3-2
5.Shane Brown - Poor pen - Keeper Saves

Albys go through to the final 3-2 penalties.

A great game of football from both sides, well officiated by George Wallace.
MOM - named by Gen Chris Lewis
MOM - named by Albys Jimmy McClean

Generation Sports 2 - 3 Dolphin Top Bar
Chris opens the scoring for Gen

Easter Sunday saw two teams do battle with nothing to gain really except bragging rights. Gen lying in 5th and Top Bar 6th before today. Having played each other 3 times, each a close encounter and today looked no different.
The opening ten minutes saw both teams having the share of possession, with very little chances.
Gen then had the better of the half following a ball picked up by Aaron Quain, just inside his own half. He found Lewis with a wonderfully weighted pass. Lewis head down and only Shane Mayhead to beat made no mistake in slotting home from the edge of the box. Lewis then had two golden oportunities to double the lead, but both went wide of the target.
On the half hour mark Top Bar who had a bare eleven were forced into going down to ten through injury, when their midfielder pulled up.
Gen also with player problems lost their influentual central defender Andy Johnson, who clashed heads for a very bad nose bleed, and this really was a telling factor over the 90.

Half Time 1-0 and cruising.

The second half kicked off and within two minutes of the restart Top Bar were back on level terms.
A mix up between the Gen left back and Dudley in the Gen goal saw the forward nip in and beat Dudley from close range.
Matters got worse as Top Bar sensed weakness in Gens ranks and a ball over the top saw Danny Atkins swivel and shoot over Dudley and top bar to take the lead on 55.
Then 10 minutes later it was game over as Top Bar again played the long ball, which took a bounce. The forward lobbing the ball over Dudley's head for 1-3.
Gen got an undeserved consolation with virtually the last kick of the game, when a corner was cleared to the edge of the box, only as far as Mark O'Reilly, who hit a first time half volley into the corner of Top Bars net.

Final Score 2-3

M.O.M Aaron Quain - showed some real quality at times.

Generation Sports 2 - 0 Active FC
Anthony Woodward opens the scoring, lobbing Harker in the Active goal.

On a bright sunny morning in Minster, arguably the two best footballing sides in the league met. With Chris Lewis (work commitments) and Dan Hughes (holiday) missing from the Gen side, there were starts for Jordan Wells and Shane Brown. Active also much changed from the side that Gen beat a few weeks ago, with Morris, Robinson, Zacharia and Payne all absent, but they welcomed back Louis Smith and Danny Wisker into their side. The first half was as expected a bit of a slugging match with both teams playing possession football without any penetration from either side and looked like both teams would just cancel each other out. That was until the 33rd minute when Active foward Matt Adams almost provided a moment of magic for his side with a dipping strike from all of 25 yards thundering off the Gen crossbar. The game then went back to the same as it had been with both sides shutting the ball down not allowing the other much time on the ball.
Then on the half time whistle Active were awarded a dubious penalty as the ball appeared to strike a Gen defender on the arm, the ref seeming to think it was deliberate. Up stepped Adams only to have his penalty saved by Wright in the Gen goal to his right hand side.

Half Time 0-0

The second half kicked off with no changes to either side, and this showed as, the same as the first half Gen and Active cancelled each other out, Both looking after the ball without any killer passes getting through either defence.
With time and ideas running out, it was time for changes and on 70mins Jimmy McClean was replaced by Josh Merry, With Anthony Woodward going up top. This was just what the game needed and Gen now with a more direct outlet started to get more joy further up the pitch, Woodward winning everthing in the air. Wells was then replaced by Argyrides and the much needed goal came from good play between McAree and Hindley found Woodward just inside the right side of the Active box, who's lob went over the stand-in keeper Ryan Harker's head.
Brown then replaced by O'Reilly on 75.
Active then almost equalised when Smith found some room edge of the box with another dipping shot hitting the top of Generations bar. Gen wrapped all the points up on 82 with Merry's long ball finding Woodward 30yards out on the left of the pitch this time, hit a 1st time lob again over Harker's head nesttling into the far corner of the goal.

M.O.M Anthony Woodward/ Gavin Wright

Generation Sports 3 - 3 Dolphin Top Bar

Jimmy McCleans shot spilled by Shane Mayhead and followed in by Dan Hughes.

A win for Generation would mean that they qualify for the semis topping the division.
A win for Dolphin would mean that if Active
beat Cramptons then they would qualify for the semis.
A draw for Generation would mean that they would need Active to get a point v Cramptons.
A win for Cramptons and a Gen draw or loss would mean Cramptons qualify for the semis.

So all to play for..

Generation with one change from last week's starting line up. Woodward replacing Wells in the centre of midfield, and this looked like a strong Generation line up.
Dolphin already victorious in Gens first ever premier league game of the season made the better start and were winning most of the possession. The Gen midfield not gelling as they have done so in the last couple of weeks. Top Bar closed down and looked more up for today's game as they won second ball after second ball. Brumming found it hard going marking Brady on Top Bars left wing and this is where they capitalised in the first quarter of an hour. A long ball played over the top caught Brumming square on. The ball was cut back for Brady. His first time shot took a deflection, taking the ball away from Dudley and into the bottom corner of the Gen net.
25 minutes and Top Bar double their lead. A free kick just outside their own box is pumped forward by Mayhead, which is flicked on, Danny Atkins swivel shot took another deflection, with the same result as the first.
Gen pushed and pushed looking for a breakthrough. Efforts from Brown and hughes just wide of the mark. Aaron Quain also going close with a freekick just before the half came to a close.
Changes were made at the break. Brumming and Hoggart replaced by McAree and Gilson. Woodward Argyrides and Johnson
in a back three as Gen had to try and salvage something from the game.
Kick off saw the quickest turn around of a game that i have winessed for a while. The ball swung out to Gens right from Aaron Quain, eventually finding Chris Lewis, who beat Mayhead at the near post for 1-2.
Then from the restart Gen won the ball immediately. The ball is crossed in and dummied by Brown for Jimmy McClean to strike first time. Mayheads fumble allowed Dan Hughes to tuck the ball into the net from close range for 2-2. Game on.
Gen now applying constant pressure and looking likely to go on and win the game comfortably.
Gilson and McAree's introduction meant that the second ball was now being won by Gen. Aaron Quain finding space in front of them was able to get forawrd more and more posing threats for the Top Bar back line, who stood up to the barrage. That was until the 60th minute when a well weighted pass from McAree over the top for Shane Brown. Shane looked up seeing Mayhead off his line and his first time shot was well executed over Mayhead and into the open goal for Gen to go 3-2 up.
65 minutes and Gen introduce fresh legs. McClean making way for O'Reilly in a straight swap up front. This was to settled the game, in a bid to see the 90 out and progress to the semis topping the group.
On 80 minutes another ball over the top, this time from MOM Aaron Quain finding Brown in space. Shanes pace too much for Top Bar, with Mayhead to beat, his shot rounded Mayhead and agonisingly hit the post.
Then 2 minutes later McAree broke through. His shot from a tight angle was well saved by Mayheads legs again onto the post and cleared. With less that 2 minutes to play out Gen were in total control, but their inexperience told as rather than keeping possession, they went for the fourth. Lewis firstly should have kept the ball in the corner, but he went for goal, narrowly missing. Then with a minute to go Aaron Quain, who up until now had played an absoulute blinder was caught in possesion over playing. This resulted in Top Bar crossing from their right to the far post for Brady to nod home. Kevin Austin, who was running the line flagged for offside, but referee Nick Harnett waved this away for a 3-3 draw and Gen with fingers crossed hoping for Active to get the win or draw for progression into the semi finals.
The call came and Active won 3-2 - so it's semis time for Gen.

MOM - Aaron Quain - Totally fired up from the off. His energy and enthusiasm to win today saw gen through.
This was closely followed by the ever lively Chris Lewis, who gets better week on week.

Generation Sports 3 - 1 Active FC
Andy Johnson rises first, scoring his first for Gen

With the clocks going forward, this always proves a problem for Gen, who turned up with the bare bones, and only ten to start. Undetterred the Gen ten took to the field having had to make numerous shuffles to accomodate the starting personnel.
Gen lined up with Dudley, Argyrides, Wells, Johnson and Brumming. Hughes, Hoggart, Lewis and Brown. McClean as a lone forward. Active also under strenghthed pushed forward, but were unable to breakdown the resolute Gen back line.
With 15 minutes gone Gen were now back to eleven. Aaron Quain on at left back. Brumming switching to right back. Argyrides to partner Johnson, enabling Wells to move to the heart of the midfield, Lewis out to the right and Brown to partner McClean up front. Gen were now able to commit men forward and this really changed the opening minutes to the game.
Active left with only set pieces and unable to penetrate the Gen goal, albeit Elliot Payne going close with his trusty left foot, seeing his well struck freekick rebound off of the Gen bar, with Dudley well beaten.
Active never really looked like scoring from open play and were unable to gain the upper hand over Gen who were now controlling the play, with great passing and fluidity to their game. Then on 25 minutes Gen took the lead with a well worked goal. The ball picked up by Quain, who hit a pin point diagonal pass, finding Jimmy McClean. Jim put in a low cross to Brown, who's first attempt was blocked, but the on-rushing Lewis slotted home for Gen to take a deserved lead. Five minutes later and that lead was doubled, when a corner was swung in by McClean to find Andy Johnson unchallenged in the air to head downwards, between the Active keepers legs and into the goal.
Gen now looking to capitalise on a great start were pushing more men forward and were playing the football that had been missed for long parts of the season. Gen were enjoying their free flowing game today, playing without any inhabitions.
Active came close to narrowing the lead on 43 when Zack Zacharia, who was marked out of the game today by his cousin Nick Argyrides found himself at the back stick. His header well saved from close range by Mike Dudley in the Gen goal.

The second half started, Gen playing up the slope and again were controlling most of the play. Two good chances missed. The first by Hughes, who got away from his marker, but his first time volley was hit into the ground and an easy save for the Active keeper. Then the chance to put the game to bed came. Hughes beating Actives back line, squaring the ball to McClean, who looked certain to score. His first time shot agonsingly hitting the post and cleared by Actives defence.
65 minutes in and Active win a corner, which was flicked on at the front post to an advancing Active player to nod home and the deficit reduced to 2-1 in Gens favour.
75 minutes and Gen were unfortunate not to extend their lead, when again Andy Johnson was first to a corner, heading the ball into Actives net, only for the referee to award a foul on the Active keeper. No contact was made and we have the proof.
http://www.gensportsfc.co.uk/Gallery.htm#Active_cup
However no goal given. From this the freekick was taken quickly and Gen were again saved by Mike Dudley, bravely diving at the feet of the Active forward.
Gen then imediately reacted and a move starting from Brumming, passing to Lewis up the Gen right flank. Chris's cross found Brown in the heart of the goal, but he just couldn't get the ball out from under his feet and in the end his toe poke found the Arms of the Active keeper.
Gen and Brown finally put the game to rest after a nervy ten minute period. Shane Brown through on goal kept his cool, slotting past Actives keeper and a well deserved 3-1 win.

A well deserved win today, and to pick a MOM was very difficult today in what was probably gens best team performance of the season. Argyrides was solid at the back. Jordan Wells kept thing simple in the Gen midfield. Chris Lewis again with so much energy. I could go on, but my
MOM - goes to Mike Dudley, who kept Gen in the lead at crucial times of the game.

Albys United 3-2 Generation Sports
MOM - Hughesy scores for the second week running.

Gens home meeting with Albys pointed to this being a close game and proved to be so at the final whistle.
Another line up for Gen saw Lewis/McClean teamed up front, with Hughes on the left. Gens front pace should have given them a chance. However, a lack of look before you run gave Albys a stream of off-side decisions which frustrated Gen and allowed Albys to press.
Two Albys goals on 10 and 15 plus a hat full of fouls might have knocked the fight out of Gen but to their credit they got themselves back in the game and looked the better team. Denied by the flag as Hughes pace paid off, finding the on coming Lewis for a ten metre knock in was added to the mix. However, Gen could not be denied as McClean battled to get the ball to Hughes on the right, driving the ball between defender and post the unsighted keeper could only parry into the goal.
Several more chances came Gens way but a reluctance to take the early shot or pass allowed Albys to snub the chances out. The closing minutes of the half saw chances at both ends but closed 2-1 with Gen on the up.
Subbing McClean, who had done well, at half time for McAree made little change as Gen battled a team who moaned as much as played the game which finally saw an Albys player red carded, not so much for the tackle but, it appeared for the continuous fouls and back chat.
Meanwhile Gens back line of Quain, Johnson, Woodward and Brumming kept Albys big forwards under check.
The equalizer came when Lewis was brought down in the area. With no McClean, McAree took the kick, saved well by the keeper McAree was able to eventually put away from the rebound for 2-2. Albys picked up the pace and gave Gen little chance to make the most of the man advantage as chances came at both ends but were well defended by both teams.
As time ran on it looked like the 90 would see a draw or a bit of luck to secure the result which, on 70 mins came for Albys and 3-2. Battling on Gen pressed but time ran out for Gen who merited at least a point.
MOTM was a close run thing as this was a team effort. Close came Hoggy who fought for everything and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet, the backs for standing up to the constant battering but, for non stop running, battling and a goal
Dan Hughes was tops.
Well reffed by Jack Packman who managed to keep the game rolling.

Bradstow Albion 1-2 Generation Sports (Premier Div Cup)
Dan Hughes scores for a deserved 1-2 away win

Generation back in action in the premier divisional cup following last week's disappointing display against Cramptons.
Bradstow fielding a strong side, albeit without a regular keeper. Gen starting with an unfamiliar 4-5-1 formation of
Dudley, Brumming, Gray, Johnson, Merry. Lewis, McAree, Gilson, Hindley,Quain. O'reilly.
Both sides starting brightly, playing the ball on the deck, but both defence's really cancelling each other out in the first 45.
Bradstow probably having the best chance to take the lead on 30 minutes, but the forward was denied a goal from a superb save from Mike Dudley in a one on one.
Bradstow did take the lead on what we thought was the 50th minute (heaven knows where the additional time came from), when they were awarded a dubious freekick on the edge of Gens area. Heath and Dolton stood over the ball. Dudley lined the wall up to cover the reliable left boot of Dan Dolton, but it was Alan Heath's right foot shot that nestled in the back of the net, just beating the outstratched hand of Dudley. Half time approaching and Gen make their first sub. McAree who was seeing the contents of his stomach on the pitch replaced by Hughes for a straight swap.

Second half and Gen upped the pace. The ever energetic Lewis closing down play, and he cut in from the left wing. His shot rebounding out to Mark O'reilly, who's first time snap shot, could only find the post. The next 10 minutes was pretty much the same as the opening half. Each defence holding strong, Gen had to change their formation to try and penetrate the Bradstow back line. O'reilly making way for Jimmy McClean. The pressure now on Bradstow as Gen were searching for the equaliser and they eventually got their reward when Hughes was pushed from behind in the area. His theatrics were worthy of an oscar, but had to make do with a penalty. Up stepped the calm Jimmy McClean, who sent the keeper the wrong way to level from the spot on 65.
Gen sensing victory pilled men forward. Chris Lewis cutting in from the left, riding 2 challenges unleashed a shot from just inside the Bradstow box, which was palmed around the post from the Bradstow keeper.
Then Jimmy McClean found himself put through from a delightfully weighted pass from Jonny Hindley. With only the keeper to beat his first time shot was straight at the keeper.
Another chance came on 75 minutes, this time Hughes was found inside the Bradstow area. He made no mistake from a low shot beating the keeper at the near post, for a 1-2 lead. Gen make their final substitution, with 10 to go. Quain replaced by Hoggart.
Bradstow searching to level also had bad luck in the final 5 minutes when a shot went through a crowd of players to be denied by the post.

MOM - Chris Lewis - Always a threat going forward. His endless running paid dividends in Gens victory over a very good Bradstow side.

Cramptons (Sunday) 4-2 Generation Sports (Premier Div Cup)
Jason McAree scores from the spot.

Premier Division cup action today, sees a change in format this year. Gen drawn in group A along with Active, Bradstow Albion, Cramptons (today's opponents) and Dolphin top bar.

Gen started the brighter and should have been one up in the first 10 minutes, when Shane Brown found himself in space. The Crampton's keeper to beat, but his first time effort went wide of the target.
Gen did take the lead though when Chris Lewis beat the offside trap, cut inside. His shot rebounding off a Crampton's player for an own goal and a 0-1 lead.
Crampton's, without their most influentual player Luke Green made amends on
25 min - Luke Hillman the scorer.
The ball worked from their midfield, finding their front men. Luke Hillman with an easy tap in from close range.
After the break Gen really never got started and a wonder strike from Darren Cox on
55 min from just outside the area with a left footed half volley, curling away from Gavin Wright at full stretch for a 2-1 lead.
Gens heads went and on
65 mins Cramptons were awarded a penalty, when Woodward was judged to have fouled Luke Hillman in the box. Up stepped Darren Cox who sent Wright the wrong way and a 3-1 lead.
Further controversy followed as Gen were awarded a penalty themselves, when Chris Lewis looked to have run the ball out of play for a Crampton's goal kick. Brian Booker, today's referee pointed to the spot.
Up stepped McAree to cooly
slot home, reducing the score to 3-2.
2 minutes later and Aaron Quain is put through, with only the keeper to beat. He elected to side foot instead of smashing it past the keeper. His side foot rolled into the Cramptons keepers arms.

The final piece of action saw Alex Dobson latching onto a through-ball, finding the net from just inside the box and a 4-2 win in Crampton's favour.

MOM - Chris Lewis - 100% effort. If every one of Gens players showed this commitment, this would have been an easy win.

Generation Sports 3-4 The Racing Greyhound (Challenge Cup)
MOM performance, capped of with a goal - Aaron Quain

Generation host divison 3 high fliers The Racing Greyhound today without a keeper, so the honours went to Brett Brumming as a last minute stand in.
Gen started the slower playing into the wind on a heavy sticky pitch and were not really at their best today. Poor passing, bad touches and worst of all not really challenging for the second ball
, which is where RG capitalised. RG took the wind advantage and lead on 10 minutes with a sloppy goal after a corner was swung into the near post. Brett not coming to claim or punch paid the price and the RG's forward with a free header made no mistake from 2 yards out.
Gen still not finding their feet or their own players found themselves 2 down, again from not picking up the loose ball in Gens box. After a few attempts at goal the ball ping ponging around the box finally ending up in the Gen net.
Half time approaching and happy to keep the score down to 2, Gen still believed that they could turn the deficit around.
This was the worst first half performance that any of us had seen since Gen's formation.
A stern talking to from Gen management Phil Fennel and Kevin Austin at half time should have done the damage, but it was RG again to open the scoring in the second half, again a set piece. The corner again swung in and no one picking up RG's forward and a 3-0 lead.
This forced Gen into a double substitution and a more attacking force. O'Reilly and McClean off for Brown and Hoggart, and what a change it turned out to be as RG were penned back into their own half. Gen attacked winning a corner, which was swung in by Quain. The ball half cleared to Neil Hoggart, whos first time volley went through the crowd and into the RG net for 1-3. Gen continued to pile on the pressure, but were caught out from a counter attack. Quain trying his hardest to get back unfortunately conceeded a foul on the edge of Gens area. The free kick was driven in, but not dealt with by Gen for an easy tap in and Ross Howells hat trick.
Gen now had to throw everything at RG and they did in style, finally playing their football with the finess that we all have witnessed over the last 10+ games. Gen playing freely pushed and pushed to try and get something out of the game and on 60 minutes a ball over the top to Chris Lewis, who calmly slotted the ball under the keeper for 2-4.
Straight from kick off saw the move of the game. Hughes finding Hindley on Gen's right, who linked up well with McAree. McAree's first time cross found Brown just inside RG's area, but his volley was always rising and went over the bar.
Gen moving through the gears, this time Karl Gilson being fouled 25 yards out. RG's keeper not wanting a wall "i want to be able to see the ball" were his words and see the ball he did. He saw it all the way hit the back of his net as Aaron Quain drove the ball low into the goal and Gen back in the game at 3-4, with 20 to go.
10 minutes passed and Gen slowly running out of time to complete the come back. Racing Greyhound hanging on. Firstly Quain going close as he hit a ball from around 40 yards out. It caught the wind beating everyone including RG's keeper only agonisingly seeing the ball rebound off of the bar.
This followed with a great header from Anthony Woodward, just going wide of the target.
A minute later, McAree showing his silky skills rounded 2 RG players, getting to the bye line and shooting from an acute angle, again the keeper beaten, but a goal line knee clearence from the last RG man back on his own line denied Gen.
The remaining couple of minutes played out and Racing Greyhound advance to the next round.

A poor first half and lack of keeper today was the telling factor, in which Gen should have won comfortably.
That's the nature of the cup i suppose, anything can happen. As ever Gen wish RG the best of luck for the next round.

MOM - Aaron Quain - An outstanding performance at left back and a great goal to cap it off.

Generation Sports 5-2 FC De Ville
Hatrick Hero Mark O'Reilly

Generation with a near full strength squad to face FC De Ville, looked to be in better shape for today's game.
De Ville started the brighter, with Gen kicking against a strong wind at Minster today. De Ville, without Makin up front struggled to shoot on target and wasted 3 early chances before Generation started to find their own game. Chris Lewis a constant threat opened the scoring when a long ball from Nick Argyrides found Lewis in space on the right, plucking the ball out of the air, Lewis cut inside finding Mark O'Reilly, who's first time shot was palmed by the De Ville keeper into the on rushing Lewis to fire into the net on 25.
De Ville kick off with an effort from the kick off not troubling Wright in the Gen goal. Wright throws the ball out to Albrecht, who finds Quain on the left. Quains pass finds O'reilly in space, who takes two touches and hits a looping shot over the De Ville keeper for Gens second.
The remaining 20 never really saw much goal mouth action from either team. Gen content to hold the lead against the wind. The only incident to report was on 44 minutes a 50-50 challenge between Albrecht of Gen and McNamee of De Ville and Albrecht coming off the worst, (Ankle Injury) and unable to continue. Brumming on for Albrecht just before the whistle.

The second half started with little to suggest that Gen had a 2 goal lead with action at each ends of the pitch seeing both keepers involved. Lewis making several runs at De Villes goal, finally gaining a free kick just outside the area as De Villes last defender pulled Chris back , spotted by the ref resulting in a sending off. The free kick came to nothing and moments later Anthony Woodward was forced to come off for McClean, and Lewis dropping back. However even down to 10 De Ville pressed on creating several half chances, whilst at the other end Lewis combined well with Quain forcing a save.
McClean who made the difference. An early jinking run, stopped by the keeper gave warning, then with 25 to go another zig-zag run enables McClean to lay the ball in the path of the oncoming O'Reilly to put away his second and Gens third.
It was at this point that De Villes agitated side line support spilled onto the pitch leaving De Ville with 8 outfield players.
To their credit De Ville still made a game of it forcing Gavin Wright into action several times. But there was no stopping Gens front line as Lewis and McClean created scoring chances. Again Jamie ran at the defence, making space to get a nice left foot shot away and Gens 4th. As of old, Gens concentration fell and a run and by-line cross from De Villes 15 saw their number 8 perform a Fennell back heal into Gens goal, a small reward for their 90 minute effort.
Gen, guilty of over playing the ball as McClean was denied by a goal line defender and Chris stopped within shooting distance. Shots from Quain, and a nice set up from Lewis to Mark came to nothing. With Gens defence still pressed their fifth came from an Aaron / Mark move, with the shot on Aaron chose to pass to Mark for his hat-trick with an easy shot.
Meanwhile the unwell McClean had to come off, with no sub Gen played the game out with 10 but should have scored a couple more before the final whistle.
Merit has to go to the battling De Ville side who did not give up, putting aside a few minutes of agro the game was played in good spirit. A good win for Gen befor next weeks Cup tie.

Good news from the hospital - No break, bad sprain and soft tissue damage. out for a couple of weeks.

MOM - Nick Argyrides

Cramptons (Sunday) FC 2-0 Generation Sports
Keith Stone take note - Absolutly NO contact - Here's the proof!

A much depleated Gen side turned up with 9 regular 1st choice players today, despite signing 24 players this season.
Phil Fennel and New signing Jordan Wells made up the starting eleven, and Gen really were not at the races today.
Cramptons started the brighter, but not much goal mouth action from the opening 15.
Then in the 16th minute Crampton's opened the scoring with a well worked one-two on the edge of Gens area. Alex Dobson completing the move by slotting under Wright who could only manage to get one hand on the ball.
Cramptons pressure began to tell in the next 10 though and on the 37 minute mark a run into the Gen area from Darren Cox saw Gen keeper Gavin Wright coming out of his goal and Cox taking a dive, fooling the ref Keith Stone who pointed to the spot. Wright reacted to the dive and was fortunate to stay on the pitch as referee Stone waved away any protests from the Crampton's side. Up stepped Cox who sent Wright the wrong way to double the lead for Crampton's.

After the break Gen tried hard to get back into the game and had a couple of near misses. Crampton's also had chances and hit the Gen post twice, but the score remained at 2-0 in Crampton's favour.

MOM - Chris Lewis, tried hard to salvage something from today's game. Endless running and without him the score could have been more.

Generation Sports 5-2 Cramptons (Sunday) FC
Jimmy beating Rob Harnett from a Neil Hoggart cross.

After Gen done the double over Crampton's last year they were very confident going into today's game. That was until a no show from Gen keeper Gavin Wright. Up stepped Brett Brumming to take up the keepers position in what now looked to be a scappy game as Crampton's also fielded Rob Harnett as a sub keeper. The first opportunity to test either keeper fell to Cramptons, who were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Gen box. Brumming electing not to line up the wall paid the price as the ball was cooly slotted just inside the post and Crampton's to take the lead in the second minute. That lead shortly doubled within 10 minutes when a long ball with the wind caught Woodward at the heart of the Gen defence with a one on one with Crampton's striker. Woodward shielding the ball expecting the Gen keeper to come and collect, but Brumming was rooted to his line and the striker slotted home from close range for a 0-2 lead.
Gen upped their game and were now stringing passes together and really out playing Crampton's and on the 30 minute mark found the back of the net when Gen broke down their right. Jonny Hindley finding Neil Hoggart, who's first time cross fell to Jimmy McClean to strike home from close range, narrowing the deficit to 1-2 against a strong wind, which was to be the telling factor.
The second half saw Gen make a change
Nic Argyrides replaced by Jason McAree, this changed stirred up the opposition as past history between Jason and Luke Green proved to be the telling factor to a well balanced game and within 15 minutes saw Jason unfairly slide tackled, resulting in Luke Green to come head to head with McAree. McAree retaliated and the referee intervened by sending both players off for what can only be seen as violent conduct. The offender of the challenge also followed
for his second bookable offence.
Gen now playing with a one man advantage, and the wind in their favour, but could they make it count
.
Gen's second and third substitutions were made. Firstly Aaron Quain on for Karl Gilson and then Mark O'Reilly on for Neil Hoggart, and it wasn't long for the Gen pressure to tell as Gen piled men forward, looking to make good use of the advantage. Anthony Woodward saw his long range effort blocked, the ricochet falling at the feet of
Dan Hughes, who made no mistake and his first time shot found the back of the net for 2-2 with 25 minutes to go.
2 minutes later and a long run from Andy Johnson from the heart of the Gen defence, finding Mark O'R
eilly onside to slot past the onrushing Rob Harnett for the Gen comeback and a 3-2 lead.
32 minutes into the second half and Gen now working the strings. The hard working Chris Lewis found Jimmy McClean in space to cross. The resulting cleared header fell to Quain, just outside the Crampton's area, who unleashed a thunder bolt to give Harnett no chance.
Five minutes to go and Gen win a corner, which was swung in by Quain. Anthony Woodward was first to rise, missing the header, but Oreilly on hand made no mistake from a yard out to nod home.
The final piece of action saw Chris Lewis lob the full back, who raised his arm in the box and a penalty awarded.
Unselfishly McClean handed the ball to O'Reilly to complete his hatrick, but his well struck shot was well saved by Harnett in the Crampton's goal and the score to remain at 5-2 at the final whistle

MOM - Chris Lewis, a constant threat and endless pressure applied in the Crampton's final 3rd.

Generation Sports 2-5 Simla FC (Kent Senior Cup)
Easy Tap In for Lewis

Generation entertain Simla FC from the West Kent Sunday Football League, who have an outstanding record in this competition, and it was Gen who found the going hard from the off against probably the best team that Generation have faced in their existance. Simla closed the ball down and played some fast flowing football, and it was them that broke the deadlock on 10 minutes through Matt Newman. Matt doubled his lead and the tally on 12 with a well worked move that was worthy of the goal. Gen now forced into trying to salvage something from the game settled and started to play some good football of their own. Simla still dangerous when on the ball, effectively killed the game off just before the break for a 0-3 half time lead with a goal from Ben Palmer.

Playing for a bit of pride and to give the Gen support something to cheer about. They got a goal back through Chris Lewis, from a well worked move down Gen's right. The cross falling into the path of Lewis for an easy tap in.
Simla added another through Lee Dunmall, and so did Gen, this time from Anthony Woodward to end the game 2-5 and Simla to progress to the next round.

It has to be said a very well played game of football from a very sporting opposition.
We wish Simla all the best for the next round.

MOM - Dan Hughes great second half performance.

Generation Sports 7-0 Preston Hellings (Challenge Cup)
Generations 7th scored by Jimmy McClean

A formality today in a game against lower league opposition Preston Hellings, who have leaked an average of 6+ goals per game this season.
Gen looked good from the off scoring their first on 2 minutes, and their seventh on 88.
A Lewis hat-trick, two from Hindley and one each for McClean and Hughes see Gen progress to the next round.

Strokes FC 4 - 0 Generation Sports
MOM - Gavin Wright in action

After last weeks Cup meeting it was back to the league and a different game. Still unable to field a fully fit squad and once again missing key players Gen started the game as a loose 4-3-3 line up. Starting well Gens quick passing give Strokes little opportunity but were unable to build anything where it counted, around the box and this was to echo throughout the 90 minutes.
For 15 minutes Gen looked reasonable but it was Strokes who's moments in Gens half looked more threatening as Gens back line were pressed resulting in the odd error with most goal line action from Gavin Wright in Gens goal and to make matters worse Gav was suffering and looked likely to come off.
A free kick, turned in from the right by the returning Arron Quain gave Gen a half chance but it was one of a couple of Strokes corners that opened the score.
There were a few half chances for Phil and Arron in front of goal but nothing solid. Then a fumbled clearance from the back gave Strokes the dead ball kick into Gens box for what seemed an unchallenged header home from number 5.
Strokes were elated, Gen seemed to wilt and the half ended with Gen behind.
The second half was a totally different affair as Gens injuries began to tell, Jonny Hindley off for the return of Chris Lewis. A moment of hope for Gen came as Jamie, who had almost no service found himself through on the right, rounding the keeper who had managed to force the forward to the right a 10 yard shot close to the by line just skimmed the farpost.
(had it of gone in the end result might have been different).
Chris worked hard around the box as Gen tried to lift themselves but it was all Strokes and the inevitable second for Strokes soon came, a cross from the right found Strokes number 9 unmarked for a tap in.Gens game was over.
A late tackle on Neil Hoggart forced a change as another retuning player Shane Brown came on and then Mark O'Reilly.
Try as Gen might they could not lift their game as Shane, Chris and Jamie battled on, Shane just wide.
Strokes third was a chancers lob from just inside Gen half, spotting Gav off his line a great strike sent the ball into Gens net. Finally, the 4th came and Strokes touchline was complete. Gavins performance kept the score to only four and has to be MOTM. Strokes keeper, also injured put in a performance and must be praised. A mention too for Strokes 14 who made the difference today.
Whilst this was a bad loss for Gen it was good to see that they battled on and will come back.
And as always, unlike today's opposition, whatever the result Gen gracious in defeat always post a write up.

MOM - Gavin Wright another outstanding performance.

Generation Sports 2-2 Strokes FC (Kent Senior Cup) aet 3-2 pens
Karl Gilson Nods home to level the score
Jimmy McClean - cool head and a 2-1 lead

Once again a still depleted Generation side today, took the field with nine men, Gilson, Albrecht and Hughes turning up late.
Rememberence day and the 2 minutes silence helping the cause as just making kick off Gen field eleven, Albrecht and Gilson starting, Hughes on the bench.
This was looking at being a very interesting game, with strokes taking 3 points from their first encounter this season and only
one point separating the sides in the league.
Generation very up beat today started the game well, having 3 shots at goal in the opening five minutes, but all from range and not really troubling Buckingham in the Strokes goal. Strokes then had their best chance to take an early lead on 12, but were denied by Gavin Wright in the gen goal.
After 18 minutes Strokes take the lead after a great diagonal ball separated the Gen centre backs and the tall forward taking a well worked move to drill home from 10 yards out.
Gen true to form responded in great style 3 minutes later, with a well worked ball finding Fennel to flick onto McClean, who was encouraged by the Gen entourage to go for goal. McClean had other ideas, as he planted the ball on Gilson's head for the advancing midfielder to beat the strokes defender and Buckingham for the equaliser 1-1.
Gen now with their tails up began to demonstrate just how good a footballing side they are, Strokes finding this frustrating could only watch and admire or dive into the tackle and unfortunately the latter seemed to be the order of the half, as they picked up two bookings in close succession. Gen could have taken the lead, on 40 when McClean found himself through on goal, but was denied by Buckingham from close range. The half came to the close with Gen just edging the opening half.

The second half kicked off, with Gen now travelling up the slight slope, and not to be deterred started the half more brightly, efforts from McAree and McClean went just wide of the target. Strokes started to settle into the game and were having a lot of possession, albeit mostly in their own half. With anything thrown at the Gen defence being dealt with admirably by Johnson, Woodward and the commanding Wright in the Gen goal. Gen were happy to soak up this pressure being applied by the Strokes front line.
Chances came and went for both sides. Gilson was replaced by Hughes after suffering from servere cramp on 75. McAree moving into the centre of midfield and Hughes to take up a right sided midfield role. This gave Gen fresh legs and Hughes managing to team up well with McClean were troubling Strokes on the break.

Final whistle 1-1

Extra Time.
Extra time saw a couple of changes made from the Strokes bench, and it was Strokes that carved out the first opportunity, when they won consecutive corners, resulting in Dan Hughes to clear from under the Gen bar twice. Gen pushed and pushed, and were unlucky not to find a break through. Phil Fennel beating Buckingham from 25 yards out, only to see his effort come back off the Strokes bar and into the keepers arms. Having succumbed most of the early pressure Gen looked dangerous on the break and 14 minutes in took the lead. McClean beating the Strokes back line, fancying his chances he kept his head rounding Buckingham to smash into an empty net and Gen to celebrate a 2-1 lead. This then forced Strokes into committing men forward. They were themselves unlucky not to equilise when they saw a shot hit the foot of Gens post.
Then disaster struck as Strokes cranked up the pressure on 20 minutes they levelled the score when the ball dropped free in the Gen box for their man of the match Walker-Mackenzie to smash home.
Both teams tiring and making mistakes never really saw the keepers further tested in what remained of the second period of added time. That was until Walker-Mackenzie broke through on goal for Strokes on 25 minutes. The outrushing Wright being covered by Woodward and Johnson on the Gen goaline taking no prisoners wiped out the forward. He was booked and Strokes awarded a penalty.
Wright redeemed himself when up stepped the Strokes player who's shot was well saved by Wright.
The final 5 minutes were played out and penalties were to be the deciding factor.

Gen always comfortable with pens decided on their formation, with seven players wanting to take one, Johnson and Brumming missing out.
1. Fennel - Misses. Keeper guessing, his right and saving.
Strokes also miss, after Gav makes a save, to his right. 0-0.
2. McClean - Hasn't missed one yet for Gen, and true to form he fires, hitting the underside of the bar and into the roof of the net.
Strokes score for 1-1
3. McAree - a very confident pen, shoots hard and low into the corner of the net giving Buckingham no chance.
Strokes miss the target completely. 2-1
4. Woodward takes 3 steps and finds the back of the net
Strokes score for 3-2
5. Hughes a well struck shot, with Buckingham rooted to the spot only to see his shot come back of the post
Strokes MOM Walker-Mackenzie shot is well saved again by Wright (His 3rd of the match) and Gen advance to the next round.

A special mention to today's KCFA appointed referee, who was also being assessed. Kept the game flowing and was 100% correct with the descisions he made. Well done.

MOM - Gavin Wright a superb display in the Gen goal.

FC De Ville 2 - 4 Generation Sports
Phil Restores the lead

A depleted Generation side today, missing 6 key players from last weeks starting line up due to injury/sickness, saw the return of Phil Fennel and Mike Dudley and much needed starts for Dan Hughes, Neil Hoggart, and Brett Brumming, allowing them all to stake their claim for future weeks.
Generation made an amazing start, taking the game directly to de Ville, who found it hard to keep up with the pace of the young energetic Gen side, and on 15 minutes the door was unlocked with a ball played down the middle of the park and Fennel to flick it on into space for Jimmy McClean to slip it under the onrushing de Ville keeper with the outside of his right boot, with just enough pace on it to beat the de Ville centre back and into an empty net.
Generation double their lead, again through McClean from a Nick Argyrides long throw that beat the de Ville back line.
Jims shot from an acute angle found the gap between the legs of the de Ville keeper and into the net on 18 minutes.
4 minutes later and de Ville pull one back in typical fashion. The long ball towards their forward Makin, who was closely guarded by Woodward and Johnson. The second ball not being picked up by Gen for John Bailey to smash home from inside the box, leaving Dudley in the Gen goal no chance.
Further chances in the half fell to Hughes, who saw a two first time volley's just missing the target. One scewing wide, the other narrowly clearing the bar.
The second half started and within minutes de Ville were all square, again no one picking up the lone forwards, for an easy chance taken and 2-2. This spurred Gen on, and a tacticle change in formation saw them go to 3 at the back. This allowed Hughes and Brumming to advance further up the pitch, and immediately this had an impact, but no goal when Neil Hoggart was gifted an opportunity to restore the lead, but his effort sailed over the bar from close range.
Then on 54 minutes saw de Ville denied the lead, when they won a corner. Their center back was first to rise, but Dudley was equal to it saving down to his right to keep the score level.
60 minutes and Gen finally restore the lead, when Neil Hoggart picked the ball up from deep, running at de Ville. He cut inside to unleash a shot from just outside the box and the ball deflecting for a Gen corner. McAree swung the ball in towards the near post, which was flicked on by Karl Gilson to the unmarked Phil Fennel to blast home from 2 yards out.
62 minutes and Hughes is replaced by Shane Brown, to take up an unfamiliar right midfield role.
Gen put the game out of reach on 82 minutes when again Neil Hoggart picked the ball up from a Dudley throw.
He took on 4 deVille players, before rolling McClean in to complete his hat-trick and Gen to take a 2-4 lead.
Gen could have and should have had a couple more. Fennel blasting over and McClean beating de Ville's line again, he decided to round the keeper this time, eventually releasing the ball to Brown, but de Ville got back, keepimg the score down to 2-4.
Praise also goes out to today's ref Eddie Andrzejak, who kept the game flowing. despite the home teams failure in running the line.

MOM - Jimmy McClean. A much deserved well taken hat-trick, Andy Johnson came an extremly close second.

Active FC 4 - 3 Generation Sports
Jimmy McClean scores from the spot

Generation looking forward to today's game of two footballing teams, as opposed to the more physical approach of some of the teams in this division.
Active coming into the game with 100% league win record in tact and Generation not having much luck in recent years at St.Lukes. Manager Phil Fennel electing for a 4-3-3 formation of Wright (GK), Albrecht, Woodward, Johnson, Argyrides, Quain, Hickman, Gilson, Lewis, Brown and O'Reilly Subs. McClean, McAree,Hughes, Hoggart, Brumming and Thompson.
Both teams looked well matched over the opening 15 minutes, with the ball being played on the deck and possession pretty much even. That was until Generation gave away a silly free kick on the edge of their box on 16. Up stepped left footed Elliott Payne, whose strike went through a crowd of players beating Gavin Wright in the Gen goal who saw the ball very late.
22 minutes in saw Generation being forced into making their first substitution when Jake Eastwood caught O'Reilly from behind, and was cautioned by ref Will Sanderson. O'Reilly unable to continue was replaced by McClean for a straight swap up top. The rest of the half really pretty much the same as the opening 15 with neither keeper being called into action, but some good interplay by both sides was cancelled out by good defending and the score remained at 1-0 in Active's favour.
10 minutes into the second half saw Active double their lead when Aaron Robinson went on a mazey run, turning 2 Gen defenders inside out before unleashing an unstoppable shot past past Gav in the Gen goal.
This spurred Gen on who reacted with a goal of their own 2 minutes later. When the ball was played by Hickman in the midfield, finding Nick Argyrides in space on Gen's left, his first cross was intercepted, but his second attempt found the box and was also was cleared by Wes Hammond Active's MOM, but only as far as Shane Brown, who drove the ball across the face of goal for Chris Lewis for an easy tap in, and the scoreline reduced to 2-1.
65 minutes and Active took a 3-1 lead, this time a cross from Payne, from an unfamiliar right foot finding an unmarked
Robinson in Gens penalty area, who made no mistake from 4 yards.
This forced Gen into their second and third substitutions. McAree and Hughes on for Gilson and Brown.
10 minutes later and Active made it 4 -1 through Liam Morris, which made the scoreline look a little bit flattering on paper, as Gen really were not being out played. Active simply taking their chances well.
Undeterred Gen really dug in and their fitness starting to tell and it looked like Active were the team behind at this stage.
Gen pressurising Active into mistakes and starting to get on top. The pressure told and Elliott Payne of Active was booked, for a foul on Quain, who was enjoying more freedom in the middle of the park, as Active dropped deeper and deeper..
Some may think that Active took their foot of the gas i prefer to say that Gen had come of age and their best period of play started on 82 minutes with McClean breaking into Active's area, being fouled and awarded a penalty. Sanderson booking Harker of Active. Penalty taker Jim took the kick himself and smashed home from the spot for 4-2. From the restart Gen were quick out of the blocks and Jimmy McClean was put through by a Hickman pass in Gen's midfield, with only the keeper to beat he could not quite get under the ball enough, the Active keeper making a good save at the feet of McClean.
3 minutes later, Chris Lewis chasing down what looked like a lost cause found the net again when the Active keeper spilled a long pass from Aaron Quain. The ball falling into the path of Lewis, who rounded the keeper to slot home into an open net for 4-3.
Active now in panic mode for the last 5 minutes looked a beaten side and on 89 minutes Gen could have saved the day and a share of the points , but were denied by a top save. The ball being pumped forward by Gen at every opportunity in search of their forth. A great cross from McAree found Lewis at Active's far post, but his header denied him his hat trick and the equaliser.
Gen deserved a share of the points today. Both teams played some very good football.
Good refereeing from Will Sanderson, who was carrying a twisted ankle injury from 15 minutes, after stumbling.
Congratulations to Active and Gen who put on a great game to watch. Can't wait for the return.

MOM - Tom Hickman (Nominated by opposition). Solid in the tackle and for high work rate.

Generation Sports 4 - 0 Windsor Decor
'Smash' Mark O'Reilly gives the Windsor keeper no chance

Having to give way to a Cup fixture at Minster Gen found themselves playing their home tie against Windsor at Jackey Bakers, on a pitch that was less than favourable to the sides passing game. With several players turning up late, Gen were forced to field a line-up of 4-3-3. Paul Axon filling the left backs position whilst the midfield saw the return of Tom Hickman and a start for new signing Neil Hoggart playing alongside Gilson. Thompson, O`reilly and McClean as the striking force.
A slow start for Gen gave Windsor the better of the first fifteen minutes with a few good attacks as the unfamiliar midfield line showed they had not played together. However, a very solid back line of Argyrides, Johnson and especially Woodward were up to the task, backed up by big Gav who put in a fine 90 minutes.
Finding their feet Gen managed to get into the game but struggled (as did Windsor) with the uneven pitch as many weighted passes went astray.
After 25 minutes it began to look like a midfield battle as little came to both sets of forwards, Axon and McClean looking sharp and most likely to provide something but it was Hickman who got the first meaningful shot in before a perfect through ball opened the door for McClean for a 30 metre run at the keeper. WELL onside, the ref, on the halfway line decided to give the off side to deny Mcclean. This spurred Gen on and the game centered in the Windsor half with chances falling to Thompson, Axon and Hoggart .Then on 25 minutes Gen won a free kick some 25 meters out, taking all by surprise, none more so than Windsor's keeper, getting the nod from the ref Nick Argie coolly passed the ball into the goal, a wonder to all but the goal stood and Gen were on their way whilst Windsor seemed to wilt. Minutes later a move started by O'reilly found Hickman who played the perfect ball for the on form McClean, cutting in from the left McClean fired home a left foot strike for 2-0. Windsor rallied but Gen soon came back with McClean providing several chances, a charging Thompson just short of one cross.
Finishing the half strongly Gen were at their best and to settle the game. The battling Thompson took on a defender on the right, caught the bobbling ball for a 20 yard shot and 3-0.
The second half saw a change in play as Windsor upped their game which,in turn, lead to several bookings for tackles and decent. On 60 Gen subbed Argyrides for Brumming and then Gilson and Thompson off for Shane Brown and Sam Noble
Windsor came on and finally tested Gav a number of times and to be fair only finger tips kept Windsor out. Gen continued to give the ball away to make life difficult for themselves but held on.
McClean again played with nonstop pace and skill to worry Windsor who might have been please to see him drop to right mid to make way for Brown up front. Brown also pacey, provided the edge to keep things even as the half looked like it would finish goalless. That was until a poor tackle gave Gen a spot kick for O`reilly to cleanly put away and 4-0.
A fair performance from Gen against an under par Windsor gave Gen the needed points.

MOM - Anthony Woodward / Jimmy McClean.
Woody for his outstanding defensive tackling and Jim for nonstop running, crosses and a goal.

Generation Sports 1 - 2 Strokes FC
'All Square' Shane Brown levels the score

Generation without a few key players today set their stall out with a 3-5-2 formation, and never really got out of the blocks, before Strokes opened the scoring on 7 minutes with a well worked move down Gens left flank. Gens back line pulling accross, leaving Lee Palmer unmarked to slot home from inside the box.
Again this sparked Gen into playing some good football, Chris Lewis having the most sucess with his determination to get at the Strokes defence, however Gen were unable to push men as far forward as they liked and so reverted to their much desired 4-4-2 formation with Jonny Hindley slotting into the right back position.
Gen settled quickly and were now finding more space especially down both wings.
Chris Lewis on 28 minutes broke free down Gens left hand side, getting into Strokes penalty area, riding the first challenge, only to be hacked down by Strokes player
Jim Hewitt and duely awarded a penalty.
Much to the annoyance of the Gen commitee, Lewis placed the ball on the spot, sending Ben Buckingham in the Strokes goal the wrong way, only to see his shot rebound out off of the post and the score remaining one nil in favour of the visitors.
A minute later and Generation did get a bit of luck.
Strokes won a free-kick, which was floated into the box.
Gavin Wright in the Gen goal dropped the ball, which appeared to cross his line, but the young ref Nick Harnett
waved play on. The protests from Strokes players and supporters questioning the unbiased Gen linesman - Kevin Austin, who claimed to be unsighted, and in fairness had the sun in his eyes.
Generation were stirred into action during the break, making a double substitution. Shane Brown and Olti Kecki replacing Mark O'Reilly and Jimmy McClean to try and force the game to Strokes. This worked in Gens favour, who were now kicking down the slope and began the second period the brighter side.
This period of pressure told as Gen won a free kick on 55 minutes, which was swung in by Aaron Quain for the advancing Shane Brown to guide the ball home from the outside of his right boot and to level the scoring. This gave Gen the boost that they needed and were now having their best period in the match. Strokes now on the back foot not liking the pressure and the away support of 30+ being silenced by Gens quality on the pitch. Gen could have taken the lead on 75, when a well struck shot from McAree was tipped over by Buckingham. Brumming and Brown also going close, Buckingham saving at the feet of Brown.
Gen realising that only a win was any good for them advanced further up the pitch, and nearly paid the price when a Strokes forward chipped the ball over Wright to be cleared off the line by Anthony Woodward.
As both sides seeked the win many over committed challenges were flying in mainly from late 2 footed challenges coming in from the oppo, one instance causing Albrecht and Baker to be booked after Albrechts legs were swiped from behind by Baker 8 minutes from time.
Then the cruelist of blows to Gen happened with 2 minutes of play left. Jonny Hindley failed to clear his lines twice, the second a misfortunate touch by Hindley and the ball falling into the path of Strokes
Terry Taylor, who stroked the ball under Wright forcing home the winner.

MOM - Chris Lewis / Carl Gilson - Both pressed the ball all over the park, not really being backed up by their midfield team mates.

Generation Sports 1 - 2 Albys United
'Thanks Shane' Chris Lewis on target for his 3rd league goal this season.

Gen with 2 wins on the bounce faced a stern test today in an extremly physical (as you would expect) Albys side, and it was Gen that started the more brighter, but unable to capitalise on their good start. Albys forced Gen to play at high tempo, not giving an inch and when Gen did find space they were imediately penalised with an over zealous flag welding opposition linesman.
Albys persevered with the long ball tactics looking for their huge centre forward Danny Twyman and playing high up the pitch and on 21 minutes Twyman found himself through on goal, with only Gavin Wright to beat in the Gen goal. Big Gav came out on top saving with his legs from a first time shot from Twyman, only for the loose ball to fall to Dean Steels to hit the back of the net for Albys to take the lead.
Gen remained calm and could have twice equalised through McAree and Lewis. McAree finding space and unleashing a well driven goalbound shot, which was tipped over the bar by Albys keeper. Lewis working hard down the left, teasing the Albys defence managed to get to the byline and from the most acute of angles shot which again was well saved.
Then probably the turning point of the game saw Argyrides advancing wide up the pitch, with the right back to
beat, the Albys left back, making no attempt to play the ball lunged at Argyrides, who felt the full force on his ankle.
The referee gave the free kick, but only saw yellow, in what looked a straight red all day long.
Aaron Quain placed the ball, his swerving shot beat the Albys wall, but also cleared their bar.
Despite some good football it was Albys that extended their lead on 40 minutes, when they were awarded a freekick deep into Gens half. The free kick was well delivered and initially cleared, but again Albys were quickest to react to the second ball and Andrew Bailey's well struck effort went through a crowd of players and into the net for a 0-2 lead.
Gen still undeterred picked the pace up and within 3 minutes of the restart, they were awarded with a free kick just inside their half. This was quickly taken by Aaron Quain, who found Shane Brown, his flick over the Albys keepers head resulted with Lewis vollying home from 3 yards out and Gen going into the break at 1-2 down.

The second half was pretty much all Gen, again Albys only out being Twyman upfront, who was being well handled by Andy Johnson and Anthony Woodward.
65 minutes and Karl Gilson makes way for Paul Axon, who's introduction almost squared the match. His well struck shot again well matched by the Albys keeper.
With Gen now pushing men forward could have fell further behind when Twyman found himself in a one on one with Wright, but his touch let him down and Gav came out to smother the ball. Then Gen almost found and equliser after winning a corner. The ball eventually falling at a Gen players feet (sorry not sure who) who's shot rebounded off the post and cleared away.
75 minutes saw the introduction of Jimmy McClean for Shane Brown and 80 minutes Ben Thompson for Nick Argyrides. This was the last throw of the dice for Gen, playing 3 up front, but lady luck not with us today and the final whistle blown.

MOM - Chris Lewis - On his game today, chased everything and got his reward for his 3rd league goal of the season.

Generation Sports 4 - 3 Northgate Rangers
'Tap in' Chris Lewis on target for a one-nil lead.

On a blustery Sunday morning Gen started their cup campaign with a home draw against Northgate Rangers
(Whitstable League Div 1 reigning Champions) and it was Gen who created the early chances, Jimmy McClean, Jason McAree and Chris lewis all
going close in the first 10 minutes. Most of Gens sucess coming down their right hand flank, and the best move of the game on 20 minutes, when Nick Argyrides gathered the ball from Gavin Wright, playing the ball to Jason McAree, who finds Chris Lewis. Chris plays a sharp one two with McClean, who shoots accross the face of goal and just wide.
NR's best chance followed when a shot from the edge of Gens box caught the wind, looking for the top corner for Gavin Wright to turn over his crossbar.
Gen dominating most of the play finally got their reward when a Jason McAree pass found McClean who unselfishly crossed for Lewis to tap in from close range on 35.
40 minutes and Gen introduce Paul Axon for the injured Aaron Quain.
The second half and Gen plying their trade where they left off, doubled their lead on 50 minutes when Axon picked the ball up deep inside Northgates half weaving through 3 challanges, playing a one two with McClean, ending the move by slotting the ball past NR's keeper for a 2 nil lead.
Gens second sub on 50 saw McClean being replaced with Brown, and Gen really coasting.
The confidence and fast flow that Gen were moving at seemed a little too relaxed and although not creating a lot were enjoying their football. Brown going close twice, once dragging the ball wide of the NR goal and a rare header, beating the NR keeper but not the post.
Gen's final substitution, Hughes on for Lewis, and with Hughes first touch of the game found himself clean through on goal with the keeper to beat. He decided to go for the lob, not really getting under the ball for an easy save for NR's keeper.
Then on 75 minutes Gen had a lapse in concentration, really due to the ease in which they were playing, and NR got a goal back. This caused panic in the Gen side and allowed NR's to equalise on 85 and the game looking to go into overtime, in which Gen should have wrapped the game up at 2 nil
.
Extra time and Northgate with their tails up found the net again virtually from kick off.
This was the kick up the backside that Gen needed and again they started to dominate in short passages of play.
Gen seeking an equaliser were advancing up the field with both Nick Argyrides and Chaz Albrecht getting forward as much as possible. Gen attacking non stop found Nick Argyrides on the edge of NR's box to unleash an unstoppable drive clipping the top inside of the post for 3 all.
Still fired up Gen find Shane Brown in space, through on goal to
make no mistake and once again Gen in front.
Second half of added time saw no real clear chance from both sides, with the only real talking point being Gen player Chaz Albrecht advancing forward and having a wrestle on the floor with a NR player, both of whom were cautioned, along with Aaron Quain for entering the field of play.
Again a good match played in the right spirit. Well done to both sides and good luck to Northgate Rangers in their league campaign.

MOM - Jonny Hindley - Great distribution from the midfield dynamo. This game is so easy played the right way.

Windsor Decor 1 - 3 Generation Sports
'3 points' Chris Lewis on target for 1-3

The memory of last seasons heavy Cup defeat against Windsor still fresh in Gens mind, took the initiative with a 4-3-3 formation, and it was from the whistle that Gens attacking line up and passing game produced a first half of outstanding football as Gens eleven played their way from defence to attack with fluidity over and over again.
Despite Gens lack of midfield numbers it was here that Gen steered the game to their advantage as Aaron Quain put on an outstanding match performance in a roll that seemed taylor made for him.
Windsor struggle to cope with Gens forwards of O`reilly, McClean and Lewis and were happy to play the long ball in the hope that Gens backline would crack.
Gens best chance amongst several half chances came on 15 minutes when McClean picked a wide ball and with Windsor quickly closing, McCleans rushed shot went over. Minutes later and a quick clearance found a Windsor player totally unmarked, hitting a perfect volley the ball flew into the top left corner of the net leaving Wright stranded and Windsor cheering.
Undeterred Gen continued their game and within five minutes had equalised.
Quain's touch was at it`s best here, picking the ball up just inside the Windsor half he sent a perfect cross into the path of O`reilly who beat the keeper to slot home for a class goal.
Chris Lewis who has spent the last two weeks warming the Gen bench knew he had to put in a shift to stake his claim in next weeks line up, and that he did, consistantly taunting Windsor left back Dean Powell who had his work cut out.
Lewis was in the mood to impress and it was him that put Gen in front, when
the ever present Gilson rose to head the ball back into the area for Lewis to fire home.
The closing 15 gave Gen more chances with the hardworking McClean providing several good crosses. With Windsor still playing the long ball Gens back line of Albrecht, Johnson, Woodward and Hindley standing firm.

The second half was, as far as scoring chances goes, a catalogue of missed chances for both teams.
Gen continued to press but Windsor's more physical game was giving them an edge as Gen failed to capitalise on chance after chance (a bit of luck might have made the difference) and the game turned into a hang on for Gen.
Gen were forced into subbing the injured Gilson for Brumming and later O`reilly for the retun of Ben Thompson. This gave Gen an new dimension and the game once again swung in Gens favour.
There were moments at both ends that only goal line defending and fine keeping prevented the scoreline from change.
On 75 minutes Thompson, with space to run into, took the ball into the area and it was only a finger tip save from the Windsor keeper that prevented a goal, the ball was pushed into the path of Lewis, who slotted home from 3 meters for what was clearly a goal. The ref waved play on and Five minutes later Gen finally got their reward from a cross Lewis and McClean rose, the Windsor defender choosing to hold McClean down, this gave Lewis a 2 metre header and a great Gen performance and 3 points.
A team performance of attacking football.

MOM - Aaron Quain - Ran the show from the middle of the park.

Generation Sports 2 - 2 Bradstow Albion F.C
'Spot on' Karl Gilson Equaliser for 1-1

A change in personnel for today's opening home match saw Gavin Wright back in the side following his suspension last week and the introduction of debutants Aaron Quain left midfield and Sam Noble to the centre of Gens five man midfield, replacing Jason McAree and Jimmy McClean from last weeks team.
McAree and McClean joining the bench of Brumming, Brown and Lewis.
Gen had the better of the opening 10 minutes with 2 efforts from Carl Gilson and 1 from Jonny Hindley, but Gens formation gave Bradstow a lot of time on the ball with O'Reilly up front, unable to close the ball down.
Bradstow began working the ball from their back line had the best chance to open the scoring on 15 minutes, when a back pass from Sam Noble put Anthony Woodward under unecessary pressure forcing an error at the back. This resulted in the Bradstow forward latching onto the ball, resulting in a one on one with Wright in the Gen goal, who pulled of a fine save.
The ball rebounding back into the forwards path, who rounded Johnson at the heart of the Gen defence, but his well struck shot was headed off the line by Woodward, who was now back to cover.
This encouraged Bradstow, who started gaining in confidence and they took the lead on 32 minutes with a ball swing in from their left. Bradstow reacted quickest to the loose ball to poke home from 10 yards out.
Gen were then forced into making their first substitution, injured captain Chaz Albrecht replaced by Brett Brumming in a straight swap at left back.
Generation more determined than ever then had their best chance of the half on 35, when Sam Noble unleasehed a long range effort, which saw Bradstow keeper Mark Beresford tipping it onto his bar and over.
Then on 44 minutes Gen won a free kick halfway into the Bradstow half, this was drilled at goal by Aaron Quain, resulting in the loose ball being picked up by Carl Gilson, who slams home to go into the break at 1-1.

The second half had bearly just kicked off when Bradstow regained the lead. Generation sloppy defending at the back allowed Bradstow in for a tap in at the far post and a 1-2 lead.
Generation finally settled and both teams playing some good football. Bradstow the more physical side playing their natural game of breaking play up and Gen's youngsters full of running and it was the younger team that drew level on 65 minutes when Brett Brumming advancing up the field played a perfectly weighted through ball for Aaron Quain to round Bradstows keeper and slot home for 2-2.
75 minutes and Gen make a double substitution to try and win the game McAree on for Hughes, McClean replacing O'Reilly. The impact of fresh legs never really materialised and both teams came close to winning the game, but the score remained and Gen gained a valuable well deserved point, to this years prem favourites.
Once again well done to today's ref Martin Munson.

MOM - Karl Gilson - for the second week running. Massive effort once again, the pressure of having to play well in a packed Gen midfield side is obviously working to your advantage.

Dolphin Top Bar 2 - 1 Generation Sports
'Unbelievable Tekkers' - Nick Argyrides scores on debut.

Generation Sports introduction to premier league football was a great display of both teams playing the game the way it should be.
Dolphin opened the scoring in a very even opening on the 22 minute mark when a cross from Dolphin's left found the head of the advancing forward. His connection on the ball sent the ball into the hard ground of St Lukes giving the already diving Genkeeper no chance. If he had headed it full on who knows, it may have been saved.
This spurred the younger, fitter Gen side on and they were a little unlucky not to equalise on 28, when Jason McAree fired a shot from close range to be denied by Dolphin Keeper Shane Mayhead, and again on 30, when Jimmy McClean beat the Dolphin left back, only to see his shot run accross the goal face.
Half time - Top Bar 1 - 0 Generation Sports
The second half was pretty much a close affair with both sides playing some good passing football.
Gen eventually did equalise with a well worked move on 65 minutes. Jason McAree being fowled ten yards from the right hand side of the Dolphin penalty area. Dan Hughes sends a delightful ball to the far post, which is picked out by Karl Gilson, finding the unmarked Nick Argyrides to fire home for a wonderful debut goal.
Then on 82 minutes Dolphin denied Gen a share of the points with a long ball cross, which should have been easily headed away by the Gen defence allowing the advancing Dolphin forward to score from 3 yards out.
On reflection a draw would have been a fair result in which Gen had the better of the first half and Dolphin probably edging the second.
Praise also goes out to today's referee Chris Sear, who never had a lot to do, but what he did, he done well.

MOM - Karl Gilson - endless running, closing down, and won a colossal amount of headers in the midfield.
